Head Mistress, (1991-2009)
Born on the 20th April 1946, in the little French town of Quimperles, Brittany to a Mr Rene and Eugenie Rica (Head mistress).In her early years, she enjoyed access to her grandparent’s large outdoor gardens and farm that she thanks dearly for giving her “a marvellous outdoor life.”
She often talks about her lovely French childhood home that was once the studio and living quarters of Max Jacob (a famous French painter), with his studio overlooking the “Marvellous Brittany countryside.”
Her family like her herself was very Pro-education with both parents sharing her passion for Languages. Even her grandparents were a good source for her French Literary Culture, both of whom fought for France in WW1 with one side in the navy, and the other in the trenches of the Somme. Her brother Yvres who was born in 1954 (8 ½ years younger) is now an Engineering director.
At school she decided to study English and German at Brizeux (Quimperles), after which with her passion for languages intact chose to read languages at Sorbonne University (Paris), during the course of which she was offered the year of 1965 abroad as a research student at Cambridge University which she was delighted to be a part of.
Once there she met her husband at a party, Mr Roger Mansfield Ph.D, who was a member at Gonville & Caius College, and later Wolfson College, Cambridge. He is now of course; Cardiff University's Dean of Health Care Studies and Business Studies Professor, they later married in 1969 and had two children Marie-Anne and Stephanie.
Mrs Mansfield started teaching as soon as she gained her teaching qualification, she became a Language Teacher at Brent, London in the years 1970-73 after which she then took a job opportunity in Stanwell, Middlesex as Head of Languages during the years of 1973-76, after which she then came to Wales and took a job opportunity as an Language Teacher, Newport, during the years of 1977-78.
Mrs Mansfield then took a job as Head of French in Duffryn School, Newport, during the years of 1978-82 she then became Head of Languages, in Lantarnam School, Cwmbran, during the years of 1982-87; Mrs Mansfield then took a job as Deputy Head teacher, in St. Julian's School, Newport during the years of 1987-91.
Mrs Mansfield then finally came to Croesyceiliog in 1991-2009 where she was known as a strict but fair head teacher, to both staff and pupils...
Mrs Mansfield does not like any particular sport, but since the age of 17 she has been in love with opera, her first experience of opera set her for life, She was part of a German learning field trip (in her childhood) to Salzburg Germany, she was taken to see Cosi Fan Tutti. Her husband Rodger is also an opera fan, Mrs. Mansfield has attended many operas often going to the Glyndebourne whenever the chance presents itself the Metropolitan in New York, among her other hobbies are, languages (of which she wants to go to Tuscany to learn Italian) and Gardening .
Since leaving Croesyceiliog Comprehensive, Mrs. Mansfield has worked for the General Teaching Council for Wales on the Registration Committee.
