Introduction
Welcome to my website on the history of Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School,
Croesyceiliog School, is a state, co-educational secondary school in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran (Torfaen, South Wales). The school is set on a large and spacious site of approximately 42 acres which borders Woodland Road Park and the River Afon LLywd.
The school provides education for 11–16 year old boys and Girls, with the option to stay on into one of the best sixth forms in Wales. There are currently 1,647 pupils within its walls making Croesyceiliog Comprehensive the largest secondary school in Torfaen and this number is rising.
In 1960 there were only 700 pupils on the roll. The vast majority of pupils come from the surrounding areas of Croesyceiliog, Llanyrafon (which are within easy walking distance) and Pontnewydd. However, the sixth form (13th best in Wales) attracts students from as far as St Julian’s (Newport), Griffithstown, and Pontypool.
The site was originally separate, with a grammar school and secondary modern school on the same campus but has since been converted into the standard comprehensive school that you see today (the 1973 school merger).
